The other day, I wrote up a couple essays analyzing the Garrus romance for the Garrus thread over in the official Bioware forums. I thought I’d share. Two parts for now; I’ll post the other half tomorrow, and will probably add more when ME3 is released.
Analysis: Garrus…
This is truly great, I have analysed their relationship over and over, and never actually saw it from HIS perspective, he is slightly hesitant at the beginning, but agrees to Shep’s proposal of “Blowing off steam”, and then starts to show interest as it progresses… And finally, in the last scene before the collectors, Garrus admits his true feelings. He want’s them to work out.
BUT, like Darthempress said: Garrus CAN tell Shep No to a fling in ME2 if he wasn’t recruited in Mass Effect. He doesn’t have the same… respect for her as he does when he’s recruited. They weren’t able to earn each other’s trust… They weren’t even friends.
The speculation and analysis of the Garrus/Shep romance is a good one, but not all that likely, because as stated before by my brilliant follower, Garrus would never agree to it if he didn’t want it, simply because he respects Shepard too much to destroy her heart and their friendship. He does second guess himself though, but not for himself, He second guesses himself because of how much he respects her, he wonders if he’s good enough for her, why him? Shepard could have anyone she wants, why him?
And that makes me think, that he REALLY does want her. Love is about sacrificing your own needs and wants, so another can be happy, he was willing to give up his potential happiness, so that Shepard could find her own. He does care about her as more than a friend, and it’s clear as day in the romance scene. He’s nervous, and is afraid of messing things up, and he tells her this.
Garrus loved Shepard, even before he realized it. To me, THIS is why the Shakarian romance is so perfect. Sacrifice, Honesty, and Respect.
Sacrifice, honesty, and respect. No wonder I was so drawn to it! All things that I’m drawn to in real life relationships, hehe.
Love this game. Love this character. Love this pair. All the love.
But I’ve just seen too many boobs for this lifetime.
And too many sexual/romantic things in general.
Now, don’t get me wrong.
I enjoy sex and romance (almost) as much as the next person.
But I came here for nerdiness and cute stuff.
That is all.
My little brother got into outer space and stuff so my step-mom bought him a place mat with all the planets on it. When I first saw it, I was upset, because it was newer and so Pluto wasn’t labeled. I was about to say something when I noticed something…
Pluto is there.
The artist remembered Pluto.
Guys…
The artist drew Pluto crying.
I love it when artists create messages and symbols right under the radar - even if it is just a kid’s place mat.
